Today, Decon Corporation is proud to share the latest stage of our work with nbn: an innovative curved solar laminate solution designed to help improve the resilience of Australia’s telecommunications infrastructure.
Developed by Decon at our manufacturing headquarters in Scoresby, Victoria, our patented solar sleeve solution uses lightweight, flexible solar laminate panels that wrap around the monopole itself, allowing renewable energy generation to be integrated into an existing fixed wireless site with minimal impact on structural loading.
The solution is currently being trialled on a live nbn Fixed Wireless site at New Gisborne in Victoria’s Macedon Ranges. Early results from the proof-of-concept trial indicate the system can generate the equivalent of up to 40% of the site’s total power demand during daylight hours, depending on weather conditions. Combined with existing battery storage and other energy-saving features, the solution is designed to help keep equipped sites operating for up to 12 hours during a mains power outage.
For us, this project represents what Australian engineering and manufacturing can achieve when practical field experience, renewable energy technology and strong industry partnerships come together.
We’re proud to have worked alongside nbn to develop a solution with the potential to strengthen network resilience, reduce reliance on mains power and help keep communities connected when they need it most. nbn will now continue evaluating the technology and opportunities for its future deployment.
