What does a modular data centre actually look like before the technology goes in?

As demand for data, connectivity and computing capacity continues to accelerate, the infrastructure supporting it must evolve just as quickly.
Rather than relying solely on traditional, site-built facilities, modular data centres allow key infrastructure to be designed, manufactured, integrated and tested in a controlled environment before being transported and deployed.
The modular shelters pictured here are a good example of the manufacturing capability behind that approach. Indeed, our modular infrastructure is already a core part of what we do. From purpose-built shelters and equipment enclosures through to switchboards, equipment racks, critical power systems and intelligent monitoring and control, our teams bring together the physical and electrical infrastructure required for critically complex environments.
Applied to data centre infrastructure, this modular approach can provide greater flexibility in how capacity is delivered. Systems can be configured around the requirements of a particular site, expanded as demand grows and manufactured away from site to reduce the amount of construction and integration work required after deployment.
It can also be particularly valuable where conventional construction presents challenges (including regional and remote locations, constrained sites, network edge applications and projects requiring additional capacity) without the footprint of a traditional large-scale facility.
For us, the connection is a natural one. We already design and manufacture modular infrastructure for telecommunications, utilities, government and other critical networks across Australia. Modular data centres bring many of those same disciplines together: enclosures, power, cooling, communications, equipment integration, monitoring and resilient infrastructure: all engineered as one coordinated solution.
